Geography AS/A2 Level at Alexandra Park School
This specification allows a balance between students’ own particular physical, human and/or environmental interests and key geographical topics that provide them with the knowledge, understanding and skills for further study at higher education or for employment
This is a broad course. The Advanced GCE in Geography will appeal to you if:
• you are curious about the world’s places, peoples and environments
• you like asking questions and finding answers
• you are interested in local, regional and global issues
• you have the ability to think independently
• you wish to explore human, physical and environmental geographical relationships.
Unit 1 - Written Exam 2 hrs - Weighting 50%
Unit 2 - Written Exam 2 hrs - Weighting 50%
Unit 1 - Writen Exam 2 hrs - Weighting 30%
Unit 2 - Written Exam 2 hrs - Weigting 30%
Unit 3 - Written Exam 1 hr 45 min - Weighting 20%
Unit 4 - Non examined assessment - Weighting 20%
Students must have at least a grade C or above in Geography GCSE. If a student has not taken G.C.S.E. Geography, it is recommended that they have 5 A and B grades in other subjects.
Students should also be aware that the fieldwork elements for Units 2 and 4 require residential visits which cost approximately £260 each. For those students who are eligible, this cost can be met from the 16-19 Bursary Fund.
Written Exams and Non Examined Assessment
Further education/Employment — Geographers can go on to study higher level courses, including Foundation degrees, undergraduate degrees and/or BTEC Higher Nationals. Geographers can go into a wide range of jobs, including:
Environmental protection, Travel and tourism, Catering and hotel work,Local government work and planning, Banking and commerce, Cartography and Meteorology, Agriculture and horticulture ,Law Social/health services, Civil engineering, mining and energy.
