(Motor) Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 2 Principles Diploma at New College Nottingham
Our motor courses are all based at Bristol Street Motors in Sherwood where you’ll study in a fully commercial garage. This course will build on the
knowledge and skills you gained at Level 1 and will support you in your journey to becoming a vehicle technician. There’s a great balance between theory and practical work giving you the tools you’ll need to succeed.
The number of people employed as technicians will rise to more than 3,000 in the next year, with the average starting salary of £15k rising to £37k per year with experience. This is a great course for anybody who has a passion for cars, understanding how they work and enjoys solving problems and fixing things.
You’ll learn how to perform more complicated checks and repairs, including:
- Remove and replace vehicle chassis units
- Remove and replace engine units and components
- Remove and replace transmission, drive lines and components
- Remove and replace electrical and auxiliary components
- Health & Safety and general aspects
- Service and inspection of light vehicles
You’ll also enhance your theoretical knowledge while improving your practical understanding of vehicle maintenance.
You’ll need 4 GCSEs at grades A*-D including English, maths and science (with one at grade C) or Level 1 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Diploma.

You’ll take part in continuous practical assessments and tests.
You can progress to Level 3 Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles Diploma.
