HISTORY GCE A2 LEVEL (EDEXCEL) at Durham Johnston Comprehensive School

Course description

At A2 students focus upon the role of the superpowers between 1944 and 1990. We consider how the world became divided along ideological lines and the manner in which consecutive American and Soviet leaders attempted to handle cold war politics. Students will also complete an Historical Enquiry: The British Empire 1870 - 1980.

At least grade D in AS History

This subject is ideal for any student intending to be a lawyer, journalist, accountant, manager, administrator, banker, architect or civil servant. It is a highly regarded subject and provides excellent training in constructing an argument, debating, undertaking research and thinking effectively.You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in History or related subjects such as English, American Studies, Politics , Archaeology or more general courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to history by seeking employment in areas of heritage such as working for a museum or within education such as a teacher. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
