Preparation for Working with Children (Level 1) at NEWTEC

Course description

This course is designed for people who have limited experience of working with children. It will give you the opportunity to gain a basic knowledge and understanding of Childcare and Education while developing your key skills in communication (including ICT and numeracy). Preparation for Working with Children is a course for learners who still need to work on their literacy skills; reading, writing and speaking and listening. It is a Level 1 introduction into childcare and gives learners the opportunity to do a voluntary work placement and put into practice what they are learning in the classroom. The course covers four main units: Health and safety Working as a team Equality of opportunity Play activities for children It leads to the qualifications: OCR Certificate in Adult Literacy and NCFE Level 1 National Award in Working with Children or NOCN Progression Qualification.

Entry requirements

You will need to have an appropriate level of English (at least Entry 3), and a willingness to learn. You may need to complete a CRB Disclosure form and pay for the check to confirm you have no criminal convictions that would prevent you from working with children.

Future opportunities

You may be able to go on to Employment within the Early Years sector and/or a higher level of qualification such as: CACHE NVQ Level 2 Childrens Care Learning and Development, CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Childcare and EducationThis course is designed for people who have limited experience of working with children. It will give you the opportunity to gain a basic knowledge and understanding of Childcare and Education while developing your key skills in communication (including ICT and numeracy).
