Computer Science AS/A2 Level at Deyes High School

Course description

The course is for people interested in computers and the idea of computational thinking and its use by both by humans and machines. The course is not just about learning to use tools or training in a programming language.

Thinking computationally involves questions that have the potential to change how we view the world and is an important skill within the Computer Science industry. You will be taught by enthusiastic and supportive teachers in a specialised computer building.

You will learn to program in Visual which is an industry standard programming language that will provide an excellent platform to use in industry and university.

Entry requirements

Grade B in English and Maths.


Component 1: Investigating programs, algorithms, programming methodologies and the impact of computer science on society. Written examination, 3 hours, 40% of qualification.

Component 2: Investigating computer architecture, communication, data representation, data structures and software applications. Written examination, 3 hours, 40% of qualification.

Component 3, Programming project (Using Visual Basic.NET), 20% of qualification.

Future opportunities

To any university or higher education establishment. It is now one of the subjects that is recognised by the Russell Group of Universities. This will then lead to employment in many industries. Almost all companies these days rely on computer systems that need to be written or maintained and upgraded. Most students go on to study Computing or a Computer Science related degree at university
