Course description

The Subsidiary Diploma in Information Technology is a qualification which allows you to gain a thorough understanding of computer systems and the management of information technology. It is a “hands on” course which develops practical and creative skills; it suits students who enjoy technical as well as creative subjects. There are no exams and the course is equivalent to one A Level.

Course content

You will have to study two compulsory units, plus four optional units chosen from a wide range. In the compulsory units you will learn how to set up and maintain computer systems, as well as gaining an insight into the skills required in the IT industry. The optional units typically cover topics like website development, graphics, information systems and e-commerce.

Entry requirements

GCSE ICT at grade C or BTEC Level 2 ICT or DIDA at Merit

Future opportunities

On completion of this course you might decide to study for a degree in computing or information technology, or in a related degree. You could instead begin a training course or go straight into employment in IT. Alternatively, the skills you will develop could lead you into a career in business, or creative industries like graphics and new media. If you decide to follow a different path, your IT knowledge and skills will be invaluable in almost any career.
