Media A-Level at Chase High School
To get to grips with this broad and fascinating subject, you must be both analytically and creatively minded. We’ll expect you to be aware of a range of media topics, products and texts and to have the ability to plan, evaluate, communicate your thoughts, and work both independently and in teams.
This two-year course covers the key media concepts of institutions, audiences, representation and language. You’ll be helped to appreciate the role that the media plays in our daily lives and to develop a critical understanding of it by engaging with media products. You’ll gain skills in textual analysis and study a range of media texts including print, video and audio. You’ll also learn the importance of research and the production process.
- Unit 1 – Key media concepts (TV drama) Exam based. Study key concepts and analyse a TV drama.
- Unit 2 – Advanced portfolio in media Coursework based. Involves a practical production.
- Unit 3 – Critical perspectives in media Exam based.
5 x GCSEs at Grades A*-C, including English and Maths or an equivalent Level 2 BTEC, with GCSE English and Maths
Media studies can lead into a range of degree courses and, ultimately, to a wide variety of careers, such as journalism, marketing, publicity, animation, producing and screenwriting.
