Mathematics at East Leake Academy

Course description

Studying Mathematics beyond GCSE level gives you much greater choice when choosing either a university course or your future career. More and more careers rely on a strong understanding of mathematics - from Computer Programming to Psychology, Engineering and Architecture to Medicine and Politics - the emphasis on mathematical skills has never been so high. You will have a greater choice of universities to attend, and a wider choice of courses to choose from - so many degree courses now include large aspects of mathematics. Of course, on top of the actual knowledge, studying mathematics says to employers and universities that you can think logically and solve problems independently, which are both key skills required in most jobs.

The Mathematics Department offers AS Level (3 modules) and A Level (6 modules) in Mathematics. This will give you access to Pure Mathematics and applied subjects in Statistics and Mechanics.

Assessment for all of the courses is by modular examinations.

The AS course comprises of the following modules:
* Core 1
* Core 2
* Mechanics 1

The A2 course comprises of the following modules;
* Core 3
* Core 4
* Statistics 1
