Product Design (Textiles) AS/A2 Level at Balby Carr Community Academy

Course description

Both the A and AS course are satisfying studies suitable for anybody interested in this creative field. Whatever your career intention Product Design Textiles can be a rewarding and valuable study. As well as exploring the theoretical side of Textiles and Fashion this course will also involve practical work, such as fashion drawing, the production of samples and complete textile products plus creative textile work. The Coursework unit will involve significant practical work based on a design and make activity.

AS Year

Unit 1: Materials and Components

Classification of fibres, Fabric Construction and Product Components

Unit 2: Design and Market Influences

The History of Design, Product Analysis, the Role of the Designer

Unit 3: Processes and Manufacture

ICT Applications, Fabric Manufacture and Quality Assurance

 

A2 Year:

Unit 1: Materials and Components

Tex and Denier Systems, Fabric Testing, Microfibres

Unit 2: Design and Market Influences

Labelling, BSI Testing, Fashion Industry Procedures

Unit 3: Processes and Manufacture

HLCC Laundry Codes, Colourfastness, Risk Assessment and Fabric Finishes

 

 

Entry requirements

You will be required to obtain a Grade C in Design & Technology at GCSE level.

Assessment

AS Year:

WRITTEN PAPER (1½ hours) worth 50% (25% of A level)

COURSEWORK (50 Hours) worth 50% (25% of A level)

A2 Year:

WRITTEN PAPER (1½ hours) worth 50% (25% of A level)

COURSEWORK (50 Hours) worth 50% (25% of A level)
