This course is specifically designed for those who have an enthusiasm for Art & Design in general, but who are unsure of the career path they wish to follow, or want to explore all the

possibilities of this diverse vocational area.

The first year of the course is very broad based and will allow you to develop skills in drawing and use of a variety of media and materials, whilst exploring the work of artists and designers, both historical and contemporary. You will explore graphic design, fashion and textiles, fine art and 3D design during the first year, pursuing a more personal and specialist path in year two.

The second year concentrates on supporting your application to Higher Education courses in your area of interest and culminates in the writing and completion of a final major project and display of work at the final exhibition. Development of basic skills in literacy and communication and strong personal tutorial support are embedded in the course from the outset.

Entry requirements

Four GSCEs at Grade C or above including C or above in GCSE English, a BTEC First Diploma (or equivalent) in Art & Design at merit level or above and a C or above in GCSE English (or equivalent Adult Literacy, or skills qualification, plus a portfolio of artwork demonstrating your ability in Art & Design.

Future opportunities

Foundation course in Art & Design, Higher National Diploma, FdA or Degree in Art or Design.
