IT Higher Diploma at University Academy Keighley
Learners studying for the Higher Diploma in Information Technology must achieve the Principal Learning Qualification, a Project Qualification, Functional Skills in English, ICT and Mathematics and any relevant combination of qualifications from additional and specialist learning that equals or exceeds 180 guided learning hours.
Learners studying for the Advanced Diploma in Information Technology must achieve the Principal Learning Qualification, a Project Qualification, Functional Skills at level 2 in English, ICT and Mathematics and any relevant combination of qualifications from additional and specialist learning that equals or exceeds 360 guided learning hours. The Principal Learning in the Advanced Diploma in IT is made up from 7 units which are all mandatory. They are as follows:
- The Potential of Technology
- Understanding Organisations
- Professional Development
- Creating Technological Solutions
- Managing Technological Systems
- Multimedia and Digital Projects
- Making Projects Successful
You will need to demonstrate a general interest in Information Technology and working in the sector. Through interview and teacher assessment you must show that you have the potential to work at level 2. You will be required to provide references and attend an interview.
There are several ways this course can be assessed:
- Oral examination
- Task-based assessment
- By building up a portfolio of evidence
- Work placement
- Through practical demonstrations
- Practical test
- Written examination
The qualification will provide opportunities for progression onto the next Diploma level, general qualifications and further education courses.
You will be expected to provide basic equipment such as pens, pencils, paper. You will also be expected to find some of your own resources fro practical sessions and your portfolios. There may be a requirement to pay some travel costs going out to employers’ premises for work experience opportunities.
