BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Performing Arts (Acting) at Hitchin Boys' School

Course description

This course provides a specialist work related programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the performing arts vocational sector. The BTEC Level 3 offers flexibility and a choice of emphasis through the specialist units.

The key elements are: Performing to an Audience, Principles of Acting, Devising Plays, Theatre in Education and Drama Improvisation. These are explored through dedicated units which involve case studies and practical assignments.

The course will be delivered within the context of rehearsing and developing performance material for a performance event. You can therefore expect to undertake a defined performance role as part of a performing arts company. You will carry out the work for this unit by being part of a performance company and evidence of the rehearsal process will be documented using a range of strategies.

You will produce a Learner Intention Proposal (LIP), detailing your roles and anticipated tasks during the rehearsal/development process and indicating how your time will be occupied throughout. You will also produce a portfolio of documentary evidence. The course will also involve a number of performances to an audience.
