Geography at Marlwood School
Geography at AS and A level is a challenging and exciting subject which develops many of the skills needed by other subjects, employers and higher education institutions. Data analysis, problem solving, graphical, literacy and fieldwork skills are just a few of the abilities you will develop throughout the course. The topics covered will include:
AS LEVEL (Year 1)
- Rivers, floods and management
- Population change
- Hot desert environments or coasts
- Energy issues
- Climate hazards
- World cities
- Plate tectonics and associated hazards.
There will be local fieldwork and a foreign visit available in Year 13. In 2014, this will be to Sorrento in Italy. We also attend local conferences with other schools. For example, a day about sustainable living at UWE took place in 2013. Day field trips to Cabot’s circus, Bristol’s inner city and Forest of Dean have also taken place.
A grade C or above in Geography GCSE, though we will welcome students who have not taken GCSE if they have a good range of grades in other subjects.
