Advanced GCE in Psychology at Cockermouth School

Course description

In Year 12 the course consists of  two units. Unit 1 consists of an introduction to Psychology and an Introduction to research methods. Unit 2 consists of a combination of cognitive psychology, biological psychology, developmental psychology, social psychology and Individual differences. In Year 13 Unit 3 - Three topics studied (final selection tbc) from Relationships, Gender, Aggression, Intelligence and Learning, Eating Behaviour. Unit 4 - Psychology in action, Application of research methods.

Entry requirements

5 GCE's A*-C. A good grounding in English will be required and a desire to learn about the various theoretical elements of human behaviour.

Assessment

In AS the two units are equally given 50%. There is a 90 minute exam in each unit.

Future opportunities

Psychology does not preculde any career, but it is an advantage if you wish to enter any of the professions where dealing with people is expected eg: Human Resources, Public Relations, Socail work, Teaching etc.
