Course description

The Subsidiary Diploma in Sport & Exercise Science is designed to give students an opportunity to explore the key underlying principles of sport and exercise such as anatomy for sport and exercise, sport and exercise physiology and sport & exercise psychology. This knowledge can then be used to inform your own training and personal development.

Entry requirements

Students who wish to study this course will require grade B in GCSE Science and Maths and at least a grade C in GCSE English Language. It is an advantage but not essential to have studied and gained a C grade or above in GCSE Physical Education.


This course combines academic units and practical experiences. Students will be guided and supported by experienced staff and a range of activities and sports related qualifications will enhance the course.

Future opportunities

After successfully completing the course you will be able to progress onto a higher education course in a related subject such as a BSc Sport & Exercise Science or to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry or sports rehabilitation field.

Further information

The following subjects would complement this diploma: A level Biology, Chemistry, PE and BTEC National Diploma (Coaching and Development). However this subject could be studied alongside unrelated subjects if students have an interest in learning about Sport and Exercise Science.
