Public Services BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Harrogate College

Course description

There is a strong emphasis on the academic, physical and character requirements that the public services test for at initial selection. This coursewill provide you with the knowledge and skills to help prepare you for entering: Police, Fire Service, Prison Service and the Armed Forces.

Course content

Core Units include:

Citizenship & Diversity
Government, Policies and the Public Services
Leadership and Teamwork
Fitness training and testing
Understanding Discipline

Specialist Units include:

Crime, Police Powers and the Criminal Justice System
Outdoor education
Planning for and responding to emergency incidents
Understanding behaviour and uniformed public service employment possibilities

Functional skills and a comprehensive enrichment programme are also part of the course.

Entry requirements

You will need 4 GCSEs (Grades A-C) including English Language, or a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Uniformed Public Services. In exceptional circumstances, candidates will be considered without some of the formal qualifications subject to further interview.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to progress to further study at University. Alternatively, progression can be made into one of the Uniformed Public Services subject to individual service requirements and successful interview process.
