Fine Art A Level (OCR) at The High School for Girls
This exciting and challenging course encourages students to build on the artistic skills, knowledge, and understanding acquired at GCSE. Through a series of practical projects, students will develop their intellectual, imaginative, and creative powers. They will demonstrate their ability and aesthetic understanding through drawing, painting, printmaking, alternative media and critical analysis.
Students should have achieved a minimum of Grade B in Art or an Art-related subject at GCSE. High levels of motivation and creativity are essential and students are expected to undertake a considerable amount of independent study.
Many transferable skills are cultivated during the course: critical understanding, independence, problem-solving, good communication and time management. Students may progress from A Level Fine Art to an Art and Design Foundation course, or a degree course in a specialised field of Art and Design, Product Design, fashion, architecture and many more. Alternatively, Fine Art A Level is recognised by universities for entry to a degree course in a wide range of disciplines.
