Health and Social Care (Edexcel Diploma Level 2) at Central College Nottingham
This course is ideal for learners aged over 19 who are interested in working in a health and social care setting. It provides the industry recognised qualification, work experience and the opportunity to achieve maths and English qualifications
You will complete mandatory units in
- Personal Development
- Equality & Inclusion
- Duty of Care
- The Role of the Health and Social Care Worker
- Person Centred Care
- Health and Safety
- Handling Information
You would also complete optional units relevant to the workplace setting where you are completing your work experience. You will also have lessons in maths and English which would either be Functional Skills or GCSEs depending on your grades on entry.
You should be at least 19 years old. If you do not have maths and English qualifications at GCSE grade D or above, you will need to have an English and maths assessment to ensure you are ready to study at Level 2. A DBS check is also required. Any applicants with a criminal record will have to be risk assessed as the course requires learners to undertake a substantial amount of placement with vulnerable people.
You will be in college 1 every Friday, and on placement 2 days a week. If you work in a health and social care setting for at least 2 days a week, and your employer is happy for an assessor to visit to assess you at work, it may be possible to use this instead of work placement, depending on your role. Your employer would need to allow you to attend college on a Friday. All units will be internally assessed using different methods, including observation, a portfolio of evidence, written tasks and questioning.
Depending on your Maths and English achievements, you could progress to either the work based Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or the full time BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification.
