Computing BTEC Diploma (Level 3) at Havering Sixth Form College

Course description

What does it take to be a successful software engineer, computer animator, graphic designer, website developer or help desk support manager? In our fast paced online world there are many opportunities in Computing requiring a broad range of skills. This course provides a practical approach to learning and developing the skills needed in the industry. The knowledge, understanding and skills learned in this course will aid progression to further study and preparation for entry to workplace in due course. The course provides an up to date content and includes the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes required in the Computing sector.

This course is equivalent to two A levels and is aimed at students who have a keen interest in Computing.

Course content

The qualification offers a degree of choice for individual students to study subjects relevant to their own interests and progression choices.

You can expect to study subjects such as:

  • Principles of Computing Sciences and Animation
  • Digital Graphic
  • Planning and Management of Computer projects
  • Website development
  • Building Computer Systems
  • IT System Security and Encryption
  • Human Computer Interaction
  • Computer Games Develop

There is a range of compulsory and mandatory units for the qualification. As part of the course you are required to take part in two weeks work experience at the end of the first year of study.

Entry requirements

Five Grade Cs at GCSE, including Grade C in Maths and English are required.

Assessment

Exam Board - Edexcel

The assessment is designed to fit the purpose and objective of the course. It includes a written exam, externally set tasks and coursework.

Future opportunities

Students are able to progress to Higher Education, employment or apprenticeships.
