Hairdressing Level 3 at Malvern Hills College

Course description

If you want a career in hairdressing, this one year course will get you off to a flying start, giving you both experience and a recognised qualification. It offers a good balance of practical and theoretical work.

Course content

What’s involved?

• Advanced hairdressing skills - cutting, perming and colouring
• Management and team work
• Styling hair and long hair up techniques
• Competition work
• Retail sales
• A Functional Skill/GCSE
• Work experience in a vocational related area

How will I be studying?

Students will be developing and showing their skills in the College’s salons following demonstrations. Level 3 students are expected to run and maintain a commercial salon with a professional approach. In addition, Level 3 theory input is delivered in a classroom setting. 

Entry requirements

You will need a Level 2 Hairdressing qualification. You will also need good communication skills, an outgoing personality and the ability to work as part of a team. Entry for all students is subject to a successful interview.

Assessment

Students will be assessed through practical assessments within the College salon, assignment work and online exams.

Future opportunities

Once qualified, you can gain employment as a hairdresser, an Assessor and/or Salon Manager. Other opportunities include progression on to a Level 4 qualification or teaching qualification to be able to progress into teaching.
