A Level English Literature at Moseley Park

Course description

The course consists of exam assessed and non exam assessed components spread over the two year course.
Paper 1 – Literacy Genres in which you explore the features used by writers to create either tragedy or comedy.
Paper 2 – Texts and Genres in which you study Elements of Crime Writing or Elements of Political and Social Protest Writing.
Non Exam Assessment – Theory and Independence requires the study of two or more texts, linked to the Critical Anthology.

Entry requirements

Grade B in GCSE English Language and preferably a GCSE grade C or above in English Literature.


Units 1 and 3 are exam-based and Units 2 and 4 are assessed through coursework

Future opportunities


A Level English Literature is accepted as a qualification for many university courses as it gives a sound basis of analytical thought and independent study.


English Literature is a widely respected course, opening doors into careers such as Journalism, Law, Teaching and Psychology, to mention just a few.
