Business AS/A Level at Easingwold School
Business is front page news. The way companies operate is under greater scrutiny than ever before. The new courses are up to date, enabling students to engage with, explore and understand business behaviour and develop a critical understanding of what business is and what it does. There is greater focus on what you read and hear in the news such as digital technology and e-commerce, international business, globalisation and business ethics.
At AS you will consider what is meant by business and the role of managers and leaders in decision making. You will look at the key functional areas of marketing, operations, finance and human resources and the decision making involved in improving performance in these areas In the second year (A Level) you will build on this knowledge with a further four topics that focus on the strategic direction of the business.
Students will need to be organised, numerate, literate, analytical and conscientious. Maintaining a wide knowledge of the business world is essential.
Both the AS and A-level assess quantitative skills, making up a minimum of 10% of the overall marks. The skills tested include ratios, averages, fractions, percentages and the calculation of profit and loss.
AS Level assessment
Assessment is by two one and a half hour written exams at the end of the course in Year 12. If students continue
Business to A-Level their AS qualification will no longer stand nor contribute to their final A-Level grade.
Assessment is by three two hour written exams at the end of the course in Year 13.
This A Level will get you started in business and give you the skills and knowledge to progress to higher education. You could go straight into employment and gain additional training as all organisations need sound business skills behind them.
