GCSE: Biology at Ashby School
This course is known as Triple Science and carries a single award. It is usually studied with GCSE Chemistry and Physics so that, after two years of study, students achieve three GCSE qualifications. Topics covered include co-ordination and control, healthy eating, drug use and abuse, controlling infectious diseases, evolution, adaptation, micro-organisms and their uses, and the effects of exercise on the body.
Students must have SATs level 7.
Students can take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Science and specialise further in Biology. Alternatively, they may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, students can choose a career related to Science or Biology, such as becoming a Science teacher, marine biologist or doctor. It is also possible to go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of an employer.
