Further Mathematics AS/A2 Level at Huish Episcopi Science College

Course description

Maths A level will teach you to think logically, to process information accurately, and to understand and manipulate numbers and mathematical processes. These are all skills which will benefit you greatly in whatever profession you choose and it is these skills, which more and more employers are looking for in prospective employees. You will be able to study AS and A2 in both Maths and Further Maths.

Course content

Further Maths introduces pupils to new mathematical concepts that they have not previously met at GCSE or A level Maths. They will revisit many of these new topics should they opt to continue their study of Maths at degree level.
As for the Maths A level each module for Further Maths is of equal weighting.
A student studying Maths and Further Maths will study: Year 12 C1, C2, FP1 plus 2 application units. Year 13: C3, C4, FP2 plus 2 application units

Entry requirements

For further Maths you will be expected to have achieved at least a A grade preferably A* at GCSE and having a good understanding of Algebra is essential.


Exam for each unit.

Future opportunities

With a Maths degree you can go into Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Engineering, Medicine, Computer Games Design, Social Science, Architecture, Aviation and IT … to name but a few. Indeed Maths is the most common subject required for many degree courses. In fact there are very few degree courses for which Maths would not be useful.

On average, a graduate of any degree can expect to earn £149,760 more in his or her lifetime than a person leaving education with two A levels. For Maths and computing graduates, this figure rises to over £220,000! Jobs in the Finance Sector for Maths graduates are usually offered with salaries between £40k and £150K!
