Film Studies A Level at South Sefton College

Course description

At AS, we will study a wide range of concepts
and areas of film including all aspects of
the film industry, the role of both audiences
and producers, how films generate meaning,
the micro-elements of film including
cinematography and editing and film as social
documents reflecting the times in which they
are made. The films studied include War of the
Worlds (2005), Invasion of the Body Snatchers
(1956), Bullet Boy (2005) and Get Carter (1971).
At A2, we will focus on three topic areas
which include World Cinema: Power, Poverty
& Conflict, Spectatorship: Popular Film and
Emotional Responses and Single Film Critical
Study: ‘Vertigo’. The films studied include
La Haine (1995) (France), City of God (2002)
(Brazil), Full Metal Jacket (1987), A Clockwork
Orange (1971) and Vertigo (1958)
