Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Southport College

Course description

The course aims to develop your skills in Performing Arts and its related subjects.

Course content

Drama, dance and singing. You will develop your skills in all three areas, whilst taking the one or ones in which you specialise to the highest possible level. The course includes a large amount of practical work, which is supported by written work. In addition to the course's full-time hours, you will also be expected to undertake approximately 10 hours of independent study every week. You will study a range of subject areas, including: 
• Drama 
• Dance 
• Singing 
• Musical theatre 

Entry requirements

• Minimum 5 GCSEs at A*- C including English or Merit in a related Level 2 Diploma and C or above in English
• Successful audition in which you demonstrate an appropriate level of achievement in one or more of the disciplines of drama, dance or music 
• Successful interview 
• Satisfactory reference 


You will be continuously assessed throughout the course through a variety of methods, including the assessment of performances.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the course, you may progress on to study degree courses such as Drama, Theatre studies and Performing Arts. You may also choose to seek employment in the industry as a performer or in a related area such as a Technician. The course also provides a springboard for those wishing to teach.
