AS/A2 Latin at Durham High School For Girls
The aim of the course is to enable you to use the Latin language confidently as a means of understanding the literature and culture of Rome. You will perfect your technique in translation and acquire a much wider vocabulary than you needed for GCSE. You will study prose and verse set texts in detail so that you can appreciate them in their original language and gain some knowledge of their historical and social background.
You should have a good grade at GCSE if you are to be successful at AS and A2 level. The acquisition of background knowledge is part of the course but you should be eager to read widely and to study independently.
Please see our school website for fees information.
