Bricklaying Apprenticeship - NVQ Level 2/3 at Calderdale College

Course description

The Apprenticeship in Trowel Occupations is for those learners who are interested in Bricklaying as a career. The majority of the training will be done in the workplace.

Course content

As an Apprentice Bricklayer your job role will have very specific requirements such as building basic to complex structures such as arches and chimneys which are all either to be completed on site or in the College as part of your NVQ. You will be supported by very experienced builders who will guide you through the trade requirements andstandards.

As part of the qualification, you will be required to attend the College for one day a week to complete the technical aspect of the trade as well as the Functional Skills element of the qualification.

A dedicated work based assessor from the College will visit you regularly to assist you in building a portfolio of evidence which is the NVQ aspect of the course.

The Technical Certificate and Functional Skills are delivered at college. NVQ Portfolio in the workplace.

Entry requirements

All applicants will be interviewed and assessed for suitability by a Training Officer. Applicants will be expected to be in relevant employment with the support of an employer who can offer work that supports NVQ completion.


Assessment takes place in the college workshops and out on site by a qualified assessor.

Future opportunities

On completion of your Apprenticeship you can move on to the
Advanced Apprenticeship or into industry and employment if
you have completed your advanced qualification.
