Geography A Level at Norwich School

Course description

During the A Level course pupils study a wide range of contemporary human and physical Geography topics. We build on the skills and concepts gained at GCSE but, as pupils may have done different GCSE courses, we do not assume any prior knowledge, and are happy to accept pupils onto the A-Level course even if they have not done GCSE. There is a residential field course for the Lower 6, usually over a weekend towards the end of the Lent Term, in order to prepare for the skills and fieldwork papers (AS Unit 2 and A2 Unit 4A). There is no longer any coursework or controlled assessment required.

AS Unit 1 Physical and Human Geography

  • Rivers, floods and management
  • Cold environments or Desert environments (depending on staff preference)
  • Population change
  • Food supply issues

AS Unit 2 Geographical skills

A2 Unit 3 Contemporary geographical issues

  • Plate tectonics and associated hazards
  • Ecosystems: change and challenge
  • World Cities
  • Development and globalisation

A2 Unit 4A Geography fieldwork investigation
