A Level Design and Technology: Food Technology at Chiltern Hills Academy

Course description

This course is split into two units.

Unit 1: A two hour written examination paper (50% of the marks)

  • Main areas of study include, nutrition, additives, health, dietary needs, culture, product development, design process, food safety, hygiene, legislation and labelling.

    Unit 2: Centre assessed coursework, examination board moderated

  • Three design and make tasks (50% of the marks) approximately 60 hours work - a portfolio of work that includes clear evidence of practical work.

    This course continues on from AS and consists of two units.

    Unit 1: A two hour written examination paper (50% of the marks)

  • Main areas of study include, Materials and Components, Design and Market Influences, Process and Manufacture

    Unit 2 -independently set coursework portfolio (50% of the marks)

  • Following the design process through to manufacture.
  • Entry requirements

    AS Level students are expected to have achieved at least a grade C in GCSE D&T Food. However other students will be considered on merit, providing they are willing to work hard to develop their own practical skills.
