Public Services BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Lincoln Castle Academy
Students will be fully prepared for the world of higher education and employment by following this BTEC Level 3 course as it uses all the personal skills that are required for these pathways: • Personal time management • Research skills • Independent thought • Personal target setting • Team work • Presentation skills Students will improve their communication skills, through the planning of their expedition; this requires them to have planning meetings, listen to and discuss ideas and implement the group's decisions. Students will develop skills undertaking adventurous activities, such as Water Sports, Camping, Navigation and Survival Skills. Time Management skills will be required and improved throughout this course as deadlines will be set allowing students to have work fed back to them to improve. This subject is often studied alongside Sports Studies, Business Studies and Level 2 English and Mathematics. It is a subject that compliments many others as it develops a learner’s ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
This course will be suitable for students who are expecting to achieve 5+ ‘A*’-‘C’ grades or ‘Merit’ grades in BTEC First qualifications. This is a vocational course where assessment is by coursework outcome rather than examination. In addition there is an expectation that students must have a grade ‘C’ in GCSE English, or be working towards improving their current grade, whilst in Sixth Form. It is essential that students attend the expeditions.
Some students undertake the course because they wish to gain a career in the Public Services; others gain UCAS points and advance to University. The course works to either provide a balance for a student undertaking other BTEC courses because of the practical elements, or as a balance for students undertaking examined subjects.
