Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Heavy Vehicle Level 3 Apprenticeship at Middlesbrough College

Course description

Apprenticeships allow 16+ year olds to start work and earn a wage, while learning new skills that lead to nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers in the industry, so they offer a structured programme that takes apprentices through the skills needed to do a job well. Most of an apprentice's training takes place on the job but they will also have to complete off-the-job training within college.

Course content

Vocational Units: Health & Safety Job Roles Materials, Tools and Equipment Engine Diagnosis Vehicle Customer Service Needs Inspecting Using Prescribed Methods Auxiliary Electrics Chassis Diagnosis Transmission and Drive Line Diagnosis As part of your apprenticeship framework you will also be required to achieve the following: L2 Maths (Exempt if you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in Maths) L2 English (Exempt if you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in English Language) L2 ICT (Exempt if you have a minimum of GCSE grade C in ICT) Employer rights and responsibilities Personal learning and thinking skills Soft skills

Entry requirements

Must be in full time employment and have a Level 2 VCQ/NVQ in vehicle maintenance and Repair and undertake diagnostic duties at work. "If you do not have a Grade A to C in English and/or Maths, you will be required to continue studying these subjects as part of your Study Programme."

Assessment

Assessment methods include Written Phase tests, On-line examinations and Workshop observations. You will also be required to collect evidence from your place of employment.

The College Careers Service is available to all our students. We can help you when deciding which course or option you wish to take. During your course we ensure you develop employability skills and gain relevant experience. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into higher education. When applying for University we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Continuation onto a level 4 Qualification in Vehicle related subjects.
