Health & Social Care BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Highbury Fields School

Course description

Health and Social Care is a course designed to equip you with the skills that are required to work in a range of caring professions, such as childcare, working with the elderly and supporting people with disabilities. Understanding stages of development and health and social care values, underpin ever role in a wide ranging health and social care sector.

The Health and Social care qualification also prepares students for careers in a variety of other sectors by equipping them with communication and organisational skills plus the ability to present ideas clearly. The skills they develop on this course will ensure that students are valued by future employers.

 

Course content

Full time course with one day per week in a Health and Social Care related work experience placement.

Eighteen units of work covered over 2 years. 

 

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and Mathematics and a merit in a related level 2 BTEC.

Assessment

All units are coursework based and internally assessed with external moderation.

Future opportunities

The Level 3 BTEC in Health and Social Care provides much of the underpinning knowledge for the National Occupational Standards in Health and Social Care and consequently acts as a robust introduction to both sectors. It prepares learners for employment in either health or social care or for higher education.

Work placements

During the two year course students are required to complete a range of work placements.

By undertaking placements in care settings they are able to link theory to professional practice. Students will also be able to recognise good social care practice, develop their reflective practice skills and understand the importance of ensuring that there are always professional boundaries in place. An understanding of the importance of principles and values, which inform all health and social care practice, is gained.

Please note: A DBS (disclosure and barring service) check will have to be completed prior to starting the placement.
