Health & Social Care Level 2 Extended certificate BTEC First at Westminster Kingsway College
What will I study?
This is a work-related course where you will develop your skills by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities.
• Individual needs in Health and Care
• Communication and human rights
• Cultural diversity
• Anatomy and physiology
• Diet and health
• Creative and therapeutic activities
• Health and Social Care services
As well as a BTEC vocational qualification you will also study Functional Skills, Maths and English.
There have been changes to the assessment of BTEC Firsts. 75% of your work will be internally assessed and you will take a paper-based test, a set task or performance or an on screen on demand test. The external assessment will be at least one of the core units and a mandatory unit.
Four GCSEs at grade D or above or equivalent Level 1 qualification with Functional Skills in Maths and English at Level 1 and a good reference. If you do not already have qualifications in English and Maths you will need to do a short test.
The units are assessed on coursework and external examination. You will be expected to produce a portfolio of work as well as to pass all external tests.
This qualification helps you to go on to higher level qualifications, such as the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or you could progress straight into work. It can prepare you for a range of jobs in health and social care settings working with the elderly or people with learning difficulties or as a health care assistant in a hospital or community setting.
