Travel And Tourism L3 Extended Diploma at North Lindsey College

Course description

This course is studied as a 2 year programme or as a one year progression route from a Level 3 (90 Credit) Diploma in Travel and Tourism. It is designed to provide a specialist work-related qualification in the travel and tourism industry and to prepare students for employment or progression into Higher Education. The Extended Diploma is equivalent to 3 A Levels. There is an expectation that you will participate in placement and/or voluntary work experience during the course.

Course content

You will learn the skills needed to work in the travel and tourism industry, the structure of the industry and the wide range of employment opportunities available. The Extended Diploma covers 18 units. Students who have completed a Level 3 (90 credit) qualification will have achieved 9 of the 18 units.

- Retail Travel Operations
- Investigating the Cruise Industry
- Tour Operations
- Events, Conferences and Exhibitions 
- UK Visitor Attractions 
- Hospitality Operations in Travel and Tourism 
- Entertainment for Holidaymakers 
- Work Experience in the Travel and Tourism Sector 

You will also have the opportunity to gain additional qualifications that complement the course or enhance your prospects of employment e.g. air cabin crew.
Students who do not have a GCSE at grade C or above in Maths and /or English will be required to study these subjects as part of the programme of study.

Entry requirements

 A minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade A*-C including Maths or English 
- or Level 3 (90 Credit) Diploma in Travel and Tourism where students have met their personal targets
- Good interview and references


You will complete internally set assignments and build up a portfolio of evidence using a variety of methods e.g. presentations, written work, posters, brochures, leaflets, etc. 
Work will be assessed internally and verified internally. Your work may be required for external verification purposes.
English and Maths will have formal exams.

Future opportunities

Following completion of the Level 3 Extended Diploma you may be able to progress to the HND in Tourism Management or other Higher Education courses. If you are considering progressing to university you should aim to achieve a wide range of units at merit and distinction level.
