Child Development Level 3 National Certificate. at Queen Katharine Academy

Course description

This qualification builds on the National award or can be taken as a standalone qualification; this consists of completing 12 units of work along with 800 hours of work related learning. It is broadly equivalent to two GCEs or the full award AVCE.
This caries between 40 and 200 UCAS points depending on achieving pass, merit or distinction, plus 40-120 UCAS points for completing the professional development work related learning, thus 80-320 UCAS points in total.

Course content

You will study all areas of child development (physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and communication),. You will apply your knowledge in work placements and learn how to communicate with adults and children alike.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 A*- C GCSE grades including English at grade C or above or have achieved a minimum of a Merit at BTEC First Certificate level.


The course is assessed by work placement reports, witness statements and assignments. There are no exams.

Future opportunities

Upon completion you have assistant practitioner status and can work as a nursery assistant. You can continue training at level 3 or embark upon GNVQ or modern apprenticeship courses. You can continue the qualification to a National Diploma.
