Engineering BTEC Diploma at Solihull College & University Centre
Our Level 2 course in Engineering offers students a more in depth practical and theoretical experience to build upon the basic skills learnt from the Level 1 course.
You will develop knowledge of mechanical equipment, components, drawings, production, manufacture, development, repair and computer aided design as well as an understanding of health and safety in the workplace.
The main topics to be studied will include:
- Working Safely in an engineering environment,
- Developing skills in the planning and manufacture of mechanical and electrical components including bench work and lathes,
- Routine servicing of mechanical equipment,
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machining of real components,
- Mathematics for Engineers,
- Working in teams,
- Producing and reading of engineering drawings.
Minimum of 2 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including Maths. Or successful completion of a relevant level 1 engineering programme, a suitable reference and a successful interview.
To pass this course you will need to complete both the practical and written assignments set by the tutors. There are no exams as part of the course.
If you are successful on this course, you will be able to continue studying towards level 3 in Mechanical, Electrical or Aerospace Engineering or possibly secure an apprenticeship with and engineering company.
You will need to provide overalls and safety footwear as well as pens, paper and a scientific calculator.
Good levels of English and Maths are important for your success in your course, your chosen vocation and life. Throughout your course you will continue to develop your English and Maths skills in your vocational classes.
If you haven't achieved an A*/9 - C/4 grade in English or Maths at GCSE, or a Level 2 Functional Skill, you will also be working towards a qualification in English or Maths at a level that will enable you to progress towards these grades.
