Further Mathematics A level at Lowestoft Sixth Form College

Course description

Do you want to develop your talents in Maths even further?

This is a highly challenging and stimulating course for excellent mathematicians who have got an A/A* at GCSE.

Not only will this course improve your performance in A Level Maths, but it is also designed to let you study a wide range of further options in Pure Mathematics, Mechanics, Statistics, and Decision Mathematics in much more detail.

This course is more difficult than AS/A2 Mathematics and you must be a very keen mathematician and study both subjects together.

Course content

You will cover topics such as matrices, complex numbers, and curve sketching and you will be able to experience a wide range of applied modules: Mechanics, Statistics, and Decision Maths.

Entry requirements

You will need to meet the standard college entry criteria for AS/A2 courses. In addition, you will need to have achieved a grade A/A* at GCSE Maths and select AS Mathematics as another one of your subject choices.

Future opportunities

Further Maths fits well with almost any combination of subjects and offers wide progression opportunities to university or careers. If you are considering a degree in mathematics, physics, engineering or computing at a highly competitive university you are strongly advised to study Further Mathematics to at least AS-level.
