Introduction to Early Years Education and Care, Level 2 CACHE Certificate at Abingdon and Witney College
This course covers all aspects of working with children aged between birth and five years, including supporting play and learning, children’s development, equal opportunities, the role of the childcare worker, health and safety, working with parents, providing safe and secure environments and professional skills. There will be a mixture of group activities, discussions, some lectures and practical activities. (Practical activities and tasks undertaken in work-place settings will link theory to practice). You will complete 250 hours in work placement settings. You are assessed through a mixture of assignments and portfolio tasks, as well as direct observation within the workplace.
You need to be at least 16 years of age and demonstrate an interest in working with children. You are required to have a minimum of two GCSE C grades, of which one must be English or Maths. To work with children (under 18) or vulnerable adults students will need to complete an enhanced disclosure check for the Disclosure and Barring Service. The College will organise this for you but you will have to pay. The estimated cost of the enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check is £44. Full details regarding payment and documents required will be provided prior to enrolment.
