Drama A Level at Queen Mary's College

Course description

The AS/A2 Drama course explores the study and performing of plays from the point of view of a performer, director, designer and critic. You will develop your interest and enjoyment of drama and theatre both as participants and as informed members of an audience, fostering an enthusiasm for, and critical appreciation of, the subject. You will experience a range of opportunities to develop a variety of dramatic and theatrical skills, enabling you to grow creatively and imaginatively in both devised and scripted work. You will also integrate theory and practice through your understanding of critical concepts and the discriminating use of specialist terminology. The qualification is designed to enable students to acquire a knowledge and understanding of the language of drama and theatre as well as developing their performing and analytical skills. Students have the opportunity to perform in Central Studio. The AS focus is on: Exploration of Drama and Theatre; Theatre Text in Performance. The A2 focus is on: Exploration of Dramatic Performance; Theatre Text in Context.

Assessment

AS Level: 40% coursework, 60% performance. A Level: 60% examination, 40% performance/coursework
