Music Level 2 at Itchen College

Course description

If you are looking for an introduction to Music, can play an instrument or want a practical approach to the subject, this course if for you.

This course is for you if...

...you have a love of music and can play an instrument or sing to approximately Grade 2 standard, to be demonstrated at an audition.

Taking this course also allows you to become a part of our Creative Arts Academy.

Course content

This course will help you explore different aspects of music such as performing, recording and composing and will help to provide you with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for employment or further career development in the area of music. After enrolling on this course you will study four units (subject to change).

Two core research based units:

  • The music industry
  • Managing a music product

And two specialist practical units:

  • Introducing music performance
  • Introducing music composition

You need to have a love of music to follow this course – practical abilities are essential.

Entry requirements

Four or more GCSEs at grade 3-2 and D. Pass or above in a relevant vocational Level 1 qualification is also accepted.

Additional guidance is available at interview.

Future opportunities

Progress to vocational Level 3 in Music or A Level Music Technology

Further information

Students will take part in showcases throughout the year and go on visits to theatres and music studios and perform live gigs in the local community.
