Art and Design: Photography at Hillview School for Girls
A Level Photograph provides the opportunity for students to develop a broad range of photographic skills using traditional analogue methods, digital editing, design, editorial and Fine Art outcome, such as scupture and installation.
The course consists of two components:
Component 1 which makes up 60% of the mark is in two parts: Practical work and Personal study.
Component 2 is the Externally Set Assignment, which makes up 40% of the mark.
For both components sketchbook work needs to be informed purposeful and extensive. Students must carry out focused independent research, from both primary source investigation, exploration and experimentation, before developing their final outcomes. Independent work is demanding and students must be prepared to be hard working and innovative risk takers.
General entry requirements to study three Level 3 qualifications for Hillview Sixth Form are Grade 4 in both English and Maths together with 3 other GCSE grades at Grade 4 or above (A*-C).
Students will need to have achieved the subject-specific entry requirements, which for Photography is Grade 5 or above in Art & Design: Photography.

Where will it lead?
This course enables students to purse Art and Design and Photography courses at a highter vocational or degree level. Our Photography students have successfully completed degree courses in a range of diciplines, such as Fine Art Photography, Fashion Photography, Theatrical Make-up, Film-making and Illustration.
