Further Mathematics AS / A2 Level at Farnham College

Course description

If you are an able Mathematician then you should consider taking two A Levels in Mathematics.

  • In your first year you will study AS Level in Mathematics and AS Level in Further Mathematics.
  • Then in the second year you can study A2 in both subjects.

This course provides an excellent foundation if you are thinking of studying Mathematics or any Science related course at university and it is seen as an indication of high academic aptitude.

Course content

Further Mathematics enables you to delve more deeply into new areas such as complex numbers, differential equations, matrices, mechanics and discrete maths.

In addition, you will revisit and extend other areas you have already met in pure mathematics. 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and a Science GCSE; and Maths at grade B or above (preferably at grade A or A*).


100% exam. Assessment is by three unit exams each year of equal weighting.

Future opportunities

Degrees in mathematics, science, engineering, economics, computing or statistics. Career opportunities are endless.
