Mathematics at UTC Leeds
A Level Mathematics is one of the core academic qualifications needed to enter University and the world of professional engineering. All students at UTC Leeds will study Mathematics as a discrete course and also as part of their Engineering course.
A-level Mathematics will encourage students to:
- develop their understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes
- extend their range of mathematical skills and techniques
- develop an awareness of the relevance of mathematics to other fields of study, to the world of work and to society in general
Students wishing to study Mathematics at A Level will be required to achieve at least a grade B at GCSE
A-level Maths is made up of six units – three at AS and three at A2. All units are available in the June examination series.
There are four Pure Core units which make up two-thirds of the qualification and provide the techniques in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus that form the fundamental building blocks of the subject. Mathematical applications make up the remaining third of the qualification and there are various options to suit the needs of individual students.
There are no costs involved in studying this course.
All courses at UTC Leeds will allow progression to University, Apprenticeship or the world of work. You will be prepared academically and will have the skills needed for employment.
