Course content

Chemistry is the study of the nature of matter and how it can be changed from one form to another. Your lessons will involve theoretical work, practical activities and problem solving. You will be provided with excellent resources including text books and revision guides.

During the course you will have the opportunity to take part in a variety of enrichment activities.

The study of chemistry develops the imagination and encourages students in their own thinking. Students experience chemistry for themselves; essential chemical ideas are developed through practical work, discussion and in depth analysis of the concepts covered.

A stand-alone Practical Endorsement Certificate will be awarded to you by AQA on successful completion of 12 practical assessments.

Future opportunities

The course is well suited to those who may want to use chemistry to support other qualifications or to progress on to further study. A Level Chemistry is a requirement for some higher education courses e.g. medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine and pharmacy, and is desirable for many other science-based courses. The entry requirements for science related courses at university usually include at least two A levels in Sciences or one Science and Maths. We therefore advise you to also take another Science or traditional Maths at A level.
