Course description

This course is designed to improve independent study skills.

Course content

The Extended project Qualification (EPQ) provides an opportunity for students to extend their abilities beyond the A Level syllabus and pepare for University of their furture career. It can also earn you extra UCAS points.

 

The EPQ allows students to embark on largely self-directed projects. By taking responsibility for the choice and design of an individual project (and/or an individual role in a group project) students:

  • Become more critical, reflective and independent learners.
  • Develop and apply decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Increase their planning, research, analysis, synthesis, evaluation and presentation skills.
  • Learn to apply new technologies confidently.
  • Demonstrate creativity, initiative and enterprise.

 

Both Univerisities and emplyers like the EPQ as it demonstrates that a students is capable of independent study. The EPQ is generally started towards the end of AS year and completed before the end of A2 year.

 

Entry requirements

5 A* - C grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics.

    • Wadhurst is situated on the Kent/Sussex border seven miles (11 km) east of Crowborough and about seven miles (11 km) south of Tunbridge Wells.  It is also within easy reach of Ticehurst, Burwash, Mayfield and Heathfield in East Sussex, and Lamberhurst, Hawkhurst and Cranbrook in Kent.

       

      There is limited parking available on the College site during the day.  Visitors travelling by car may prefer to park in the public car park, which is situated next to the Greyhound Pub in the High Street, adjacent to the College. 

       

      Uplands is a Community College and we have a Sports Centre on-site, which is open to the public and a Youth Centre across the road.  The entire College site, including the Sports Centre is a non-smoking environment. 

      The College is:

      • Within easy reach of the A21

       

      • Approximately 1 mile from Wadhurst Railway Station

       

      • Served by bus routes from the surrounding towns/villages

       

      • Located within the centre of Wadhurst; Sixth Form students are permitted to visit the local shops during study periods and break/lunchtime
