Painting and Decorating Level 3 Diploma at Northumberland College

Course description

This course is for anyone who would like to gain advanced practical skills and knowledge of painting and decorating at level 3

Course content

You will study how to erect and dismantle access and working platforms, the application of paint by brush and roller, applying papers to walls and ceilings, specialist decorative finishes, specialist architectural feature work, how to apply water-borne paint systems using air-less equipment and surfaces preparation. Ideal if you wish to develop higher level skills in the trade.

Entry requirements

You should have a relevant Level 2 qualification. You will need to take an initial assessment and attend an interview with the Course Team Leader.


Your progress will be assessed by practical assessments in the workshop, eight multiple choice question papers, a practical skills test covering various practical activities and a diploma online test.

Future opportunities

After successfully completing the course you could progress into self employment in Painting and Decorating or complete the NVQ Level 3 if you are employed in a painting and decorating role.
