Physical Education A Level (AQA) at The High School for Girls
Students will cover all aspects of sports physiology, psychology, sociology and biomechanics. They will investigate sport from grass roots to elite level, and the development of competitive sport. Healthy lifestyles, fitness and training, and preparation for sports performance are also covered extensively.
Areas of study include: Applied anatomy and physiology; skill acquisition; sport and society; exercise physiology and biomechanics; sport psychology; sport and society; technology in sport.
Students should have achieved Grade B in PE or Biology or Grade Bs in Core Science and Additional Science. Students do not have to have studied GCSE PE in order to be successful at A Level. It is anticipated that students will have a keen interest in, and an aptitude for and commitment to sport and participate regularly, at club level, in their chosen activity.
The sport and leisure industry has been one of the largest growth industries over the last five years. Physical Education has developed as a subject, and is now regarded as rigorously academic by universities. Recently, students have gone on to study medicine, physiotherapy, sport and exercise science, sports therapy as well as physical education.
