Spanish AS at Hayes School
The Modern Foreign Language Spanish course is designed for students interested in languages and communication who enjoy learning about other cultures and ways of life. The course will also be appropriate for those interested in the business world, travel and tourism, in journalism and the media. There are a number of options in the course where students can choose a topic/question to suit their interests. Students will have countless opportunities to use the department’s digital language resources to develop speaking and listening skills and independent learning. Students are expected to read widely in the foreign language and to keep up-to-date with current affairs via newspapers and satellite television (available at school). They are also strongly encouraged to participate in study visits to the relevant country, e.g. on work experience. Courses are offered in Spanish at Advanced Subsidiary level (one year course) and at Advanced level (two year course). AS level - Unit 1 - Oral discussion (10 minutes) Unit 2 - Listening, reading and writing (2½ hours external examination)
4 GCSE B grades, including B in this subject
You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Spanish, which could lead you onto higher education to study Spanish, Languages or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job requiring a knowledge of Spanish or Languages such as a Teacher, Translator, or you may wish to use your Spanish to study or work over in Spain. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the travel and tourism sector.
