Course description

What is this course?

This new EdExcel course will have a one year option – BTEC Level 3 Certificate : (1 AS level) OR a two year option – BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary : (1 A level)

The focus of the course will be on obtaining high level skills in all areas of Graphic Design, including Visual Recording, Materials Techniques and Processes, Ideas and Concepts and Communication.

What will the course cover?

BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Graphic Design consists of one mandatory Unit in Visual Recording PLUS two other Units from the professional specialist list below:

  • Unit 37 Graphics Media, Techniques and Technology
  • Unit 41 Words and Images in Graphic Design
  • Unit 42 Design for Advertising
  • Unit 43 Graphics for 3D Application

BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary in Graphic Design consists of four mandatory Units:

  1. Visual Recording in Art and Design
  2. Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design
  3. Ideas and Concepts in Art and Design
  4. Communication Through Art and Design

PLUS, two other options from the Graphic Design specialist list below:

  • Unit 37 Graphics Media, Techniques and Technology
  • Unit 38 Mixed Media Image Making
  • Unit 41 Words and Images in Graphic Design
  • Unit 42 Design for Advertising
  • Unit 43 Graphics for 3D Application
  • Unit 45 Graphic Image Making

Entry requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at grades A* - C including English and Maths. Students are expected to select a minimum of 4 AS subjects in Year 12 and continue to follow a minimum of 3 subjects to A2 in Year 13. 

You will require a minimum of grade C in both Art & Design and/or Textiles at GCSE
